"I fondly remember the smell of the kitchen where my mother grew up in North Carolina as I watched my grandmother baking sweet potato and coconut custard pies. I remember, too, the goodies from my mother and aunts, Juanita and Hart. I can still smell their apple pies, lemon pound cakes, and the special five flavor cakes all made from scratch. Each time I bake, I think of those fond memories. They’re my source of strength as I continue to spread the love they shared with me all those years ago.

"My mom has always been a jack-of-all-trades and an entrepreneur—something I admire. And I know that she’s always been one of the best cooks around. What I didn’t know was what a wonderful baker she was! We usually left the desserts to my grandmother and great aunts, but as they got older, my mother started baking more and more to help out at family get-togethers. I had never tasted cakes with that much flavor and zest. (Sorry, Grandma!) I loved the cakes so much I decided to teach myself how to decorate them, matching the goodness of her cakes with beautiful rose patterns that we can share with the masses. I want to bring good flavor and blessings to NYC and the rest of the world through these cakes.
